Partners card – We honor it!

Posted by posylane on October 26, 2008

There are a lot of great causes to choose from.  Most of them don’t offer the opportunity to help them while helping yourself more financially!  But Partners Card does exactly that.  Each year, for 10 days you can receive a 20% discount from over 750 retailers and restaurants by showing your partners card.

The card costs only $60, so if you spend over $300 using the card you save more than the cost of the card while helping The Family Place, a women’s shelter.

It’s a great cause and it saves you money.  Win-Win at Posy Lane!

An update on McKinney’s Dickens festival

A snow tubing hill similar to ours

Kerrie is on the Dickens committee and they have decided on the main attraction for this years festival is a snow tubing hill.  It will be right in the downtown with a big hill and a show machine.  It will be a lot of fun for Texas kids who don’t see a lot of snow and don’t normally get to slide down a hill during the winter.

Oh Cupcakes of McKinney Texas

Oh Cupcakes of McKinney Texas

The best thing about our gift store is all the great people we get to meet.  People like Christi with Oh Cupcakes.  We got to know her as she has selected wedding invitations.  Despite a very serious accident at work a number of years ago and the unpleasant circumstances after it, Christi is one of the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet.

Our very own custom cupcakes

Even better are her cupcakes.  She brought a dozen by one day.  As you can see, they were decorated to perfection and tasted great too.  None went to waste!  Most amazing are her prices, started at $1.75 and usually less than $2.50.  That’s practically giving them away!  If you are in the McKinney Texas area, look Christi up at her Oh Cupcake website!

These cards are a great concept and we knew we had to get them as soon as we saw them.  We’ve all been there, (when we were single!) at a party, bar, some social function.  You met a girl (or guy) you like.  How do you communicate interest, without things getting awkward, and in a way that will raise her interest?

The Dude Deck and the Babe box of really good lines are unique ways to send the right message, from ‘I like you’ to “buzz off!’  Each box has 52 different cards.  Keep them handy for yourself and your friends.

Old World Christmas Ornaments

Old World Christmas Ornaments

Old World Christmas Ornaments

In our house we have a Christmas tradition.  As a couple we selected an ornament that most reflects the happenings of the past year, and add it to our collection.  As we decorate the Christmas tree, the ornaments we selected in year’s past bring refresh our memories.  Before opening our store we never really paid attention, but we recently we realized we typically selected ornaments from Old World Christmas.

Old World Christmas ornaments are created using the same methods developed in the 1800s.  Molten glass is blown into hand-carved molds, and then hand painted and glittered to achieve the final creation.  They are absolutely lead-free.  The resulting ornament is dramatic and attention getting.

An Ezy Roller is a thrilling gift for children

Ezy Roller

Ezy Roller

We have a new product in our store that just about every kid goes nuts over.  It’s a three-wheeled cart from New Zealand called Ezy Roller.  The small size belittles its durability – it has very solid tubular steel frame.  The wheels are the same as you would find on rollerblades and are non-marking.  The rolling action is very smooth.  It’s a quality product.

The Ezy Roller moves by pumping your legs back and forth and you can get moving up to 12 mph.  At $99.99 it’s a little more expensive, but it’s going to last a long time and the two included extension rods allow children from 3-14 years of age to ride, the wheels are replaceable with rollerblade wheels, so it’s going to last a long time.

They are available in pink and red.  We are having trouble keeping them in stock so order your Ezy Roller online and you will receive it in the order in which they are reserved.

Hand made pens made from stone, wood & acrylic

Baron style white turquoise stone pen

Baron style white turquoise stone pen

Our friend Kirby Pople creates the most amazing hand-made pens.  He starts with a solid square blank of wood, acrylic, Lucite or stone, and turns the blank on a lath until the round pen is revealed.  His stone pens are my favorite – he has stones like white turquoise to blue lapis.  They have a solid feel and unique look all their own.  But the Lucite pens are pretty amazing as well.  Lucite is semi-transparent and the pens have amazing depth.

Linking letter Christmas ornaments

Linking letter Christmas ornaments

Here is a really cool idea – small single-letter Christmas ornaments that link together so you can spell words or names!  My mother-in-law is buying 87 letters to spell each person’s name in her family, then hang them for Christmas.  Each letter measures an inch and a half high, and each letter comes in different colors.

The ornaments are hand made of blown glass, and are glittered on one side and plain on the other.

It’s hard to believe our second Dickens of a Christmas is nearly upon McKinney Square.  The event, going on its 28th year, is this November 28, 29 & 30th.  Don’t miss our old fashioned, Victorian atmosphere with horse drawn carriages, strolling carolers, visits with Santa Claus, the Christmas tree lighting and activities for all ages.  Seasonal music, food and children’s activities provided by local not-for-profit organizations will take center stage during the event.
