How to pick the best kids backpack

We carry many children's backpacks, and we have great pictures of each one.  But with such difference in sizes and construction, it is difficult to know how a backpack might fit your child.  This review is to help you pick the best backpack for your child in terms of size and comfort.

For the visual folks, we have our soon to be five year old model wear each backpack, and we show pictures of each brand, back, side, and front.  You can quickly get a very good idea of the actual size of each backpack, and the comfort level of the straps.

Our backpacks run from small designs for toddlers to backpacks for bigger kids.  All of our designs are kid tested and durable, we don't sell backpacks that fall apart.

About half our backpack orders include personalization.  99% of our backpacks can be personalized, and I think we have the best embroidery options out there.  We over about 40 fonts, and forty thread colors.  With most of our fonts, you can use our embroidery preview tool to see how the name will look before you buy.

We are also the only website with a standard offering of applique options!

The horizontal backpacks are a great design.  They put the weight higher on the shoulders, and open very wide for the size.  This make it easier to find things, and they are perfect for holding and iPad or books.

There are boy designs like this rocket plane, animal designs, and glitter designs sure to be very popular with your little girl!

Quilted backpack review

Stephen Joseph quilted toddler backpacks are very cute, and very popular.  No other backpack line has fun designs appliqued and embroidered right on the bag.The backpacks are made from quilted cotton and have an inside nylon lining.  They feel like they have some substance to them. The straps are just cloth, so I would not put a lot of weight and have your child walk a long distance.  However for most kids that is not an issue.  Our five year old son uses this backpack about half the time for school.

Stephen Joseph has a big line of matching kid products like duffle bags, lunch totes, and nap mats, so this brand is great for sending your child with a matching set of a duffle bag, lunch tote, and nap mat.

Toddler backpack review

Mint toddler backpacks are unique for their clean, classic looks.  They come in colorful nylons, and seersucker, corduroy, and gingham fabrics. The picture above shows the straps are wide and well padded, so this is a comfortable backpack for your child to wear.

Mint is another brand with many kid products, so it is easy to send your child to school with a matching set of backpack, duffle bag, lunch tote, and nap mat.

Mint Medium Kids Backpacks Mint Medium Kids Backpacks

Medium backpack review

Mint's medium kids backpacks are similar to the toddler style, only much bigger.  The toddler style works for kids up to about age 5, and the medium style works to age 10 and beyond. The straps are also wide and padded.

For kids this age, a great matching set is a duffle bag and laundry bag.

We can personalize the backpacks with embroidery, or applique designs.  With applique, you pick a fabric, a design, and a thread color to make an extra special backpack for your child.

GoGo backpack review

Stephen Joseph GoGo kids backpacks are made from viny like material.  It is a nifty feature, as these backpacks wipe clean very easily.  The colors are vibrant, and match the huge Stephen Joseph product line of duffle bags, lunch totes, and nap mats.

The straps are narrower and without padding, so we don't recommend this backpack combined with a heavy load of books.

Jaq Jaq Bird backpack review

Jaq Jaq Bird backpacks come with a matching lunch tote.  The backpack is big and as the picture above shows, it has very comfortable straps.  The backpack has very solid construction, and will serve for many years. We personalize the lunch tote unless instructed to personalize the backpack.

When our son gets older and finally outgrows his small backpacks, this is will be style of his new backpack.  I love the big straps and attached lunch tote.

We are constantly photographing our kid products and writing reviews and comparisons so you can make an informed decision!  See all our kid product reviews!
